Kia Introduces Their First-Ever Dedicated Electric Vehicle: the 2022 EV6
In February 2021, Kia announced their new brand strategy, “Plan S,” built on three major pillars: advancing their electric vehicle (EV) lineup, strengthening their purpose-built vehicle (PBV) business, and expanding future mobility services. Then on May 18th, Kia Motors kicked off their new electric-vehicle lineup with their first-ever dedicated electric vehicle, the 2022 Kia EV6. With impressive speed, style, and technology, the EV6 is a competitive new addition to the electric vehicle market and positions Kia as a manufacturer to watch in the race to electrification. We at Landers Auto Group are thrilled for the new 2022 EV6 to arrive, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Kia Motors.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is the first vehicle to be built on the brand’s new platform specifically for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This new platform is rear-wheel-based with available AWD capability with a front electric motor, constructed of 75% high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel and features an underfloor-mounted battery for a low center of gravity for stability.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is powered by either the 58.0 kWh or 77.4 kWh battery. The 58.0 kWh battery offers 167 horsepower. The 77.4 kWh battery can be paired with either RWD or AWD. The 77.4 kWh battery provides 218 horsepower with RWD and 313 horsepower with AWD. For consumers looking for a thrilling electric drive, Kia will offer a GT model that combines the 77.4 kWh battery with a 160kW front motor and a 270kW rear motor that yields 576 horsepower and has an estimated 0-60 mph performance of 3.5 seconds!
How long does it take for the EV6 to charge? The all-new 2022 EV6 features the world’s first 800V multi-charging architecture that supports 400v and 800v DC charging with speeds ranging from 50kW to 350kW. 800v charging at a speed of 350kW can charge the EV6 from ten to 80 percent (up to 210 miles) in just 18 minutes. In less than five minutes, it can add nearly 70 miles. The battery also allows consumers to use their EV6 as a portable generator that powers everything from laptops to home improvement projects to camping or tailgating necessities.
The 2022 EV6 was intentionally designed to be eco-friendly, functional and stylish with sustainable materials used throughout. Inside, recycled plastics are used and available vegan-leather seat trim offers a premium feel without the environmental consequences of leather. The entertainment center features a 12-inch center cluster with blue-light filtered screens, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, UVO link and more. For those long road trips or remote camping trips, the available WiFi hotspot ensures that you and your passengers stay connected on the go.
As for safety, the EV6 is equipped with a comprehensive menu of standard Advanced Driver Safety Systems. Arguably the most exciting feature is the new Highway Driving Assist II (HDA 2), a driving assistance system that intelligently maintains a safe distance from the car ahead and keeps the vehicle centered in its lane. Additionally, HDA 2 assists with lane changes while Blind-Spot Avoidance Assist alerts the driver of obstacles in their blind spot.
At the Landers Auto Group, we’re excited to see our various manufacturers expand their electric-vehicle lineups for a greener future. If Kia’s future EVs are anything like the new 2022 EV6, the automotive industry better watch out. Stay tuned on Landers Kia’s website and Facebook page to be the first to know about the new EV6!
